Shepherd’s Flock offers a unique intergenerational program.
Shepherd’s Flock is an acclaimed Christian child care program for infants (six weeks) through pre-school that offers a strong intergenerational component. The Shepherd’s Flock curriculum is a total program for mind, body and spirit. Students are taught core educational skills, as well as being introduced to Spanish, fine arts and computer skills in a fun, socially engaging setting. Children enrolled in Shepherd’s Flock also enjoy opportunities to participate in events and activities with residents of Lutheran Life Communities. Shepherd’s Flock has served children and their families year-round on the campus of Lutheran Home since 1997.

Lutheran Home residents—whom the children refer to as “grandmas” and “grandpas”—participate with the children in a variety of planned, on-site activities such as art, music, stories, and games. In the chapel of the Lutheran Home, special events are held for children and their “grandmas and grandpas” to enjoy together. These include the annual Easter Egg Hunt, an Independence Day parade and a Christmas program.
Preschool-age children take field trips on Wednesdays, and “grandmas” and “grandpas” are always welcome to accompany them. Together, students and residents have delighted in spending time together on outings to places such as pumpkin farms in the fall and water parks in the summer. Whenever a “grandma” or “grandpa” comes along, it always makes the day more special and both the children and Lutheran Home residents benefit from their interaction.
